Looking for a safe boating course? You have come to the right place.


Our Local (public-facing) Services from Flotilla Ipswich: 

 The public may request service or may see us performing some of these services regularly: 

  • Distribution of free Paddle-Craft ID (if-found) stickers
         
     Bylaws of Ipswich MA mandate contact info on all paddle-craft usage in Ipswich waters. Also incredibly important to the USCG.  Please email us to request some
  • Boating Safety Public Education
          All courses get posted to our Eventbrite registration page, click follow to get an alert. 
  • Free Vessel Safety Checks 
          We perform annual checks either on-trailer in your driveway, or in-water at a wharf/dock. For recreational boats only, sorry no commercial.  Email us to schedule.  Successful vessels receive a new decal. 
  • ATON/PATON Verification 
          We perform reviews of Private (ie: Municipal) Aids to Navigation in our local area, working with Harbormasters and other PD's. 
  • Surface Patrols / SAR / Boat Crew
          We deploy crews to patrol Ipswich/Essex/Rowley and other North Shore area waters. 
  • Liaise between the local community & USCG Active Duty
          Have a problem? We may be able to help.

          We have members that perform watch-standing and work the radios at USCG facilities.

Boat Safety March 2024 Class

Members of Flotilla 37 will be offering the US Coast Guard Boating Safety course titled "Boat America".

This will be held on FOUR (4) consecutive TUESDAY evenings from 6:30p until 9p..

"Boat America" Course Schedule

  • Days: Tuesdays March 12, 19, 26, & April 02
  • Hours: 6:30pm-9:00pm
  • Duration: ~10 hours over 4 classes
  • Lessons: 4 consecutive, 1 per week on Tuesday Evenings
  • Location: Ipswich Town Hall

An exciting, in-depth boating safety course titled "Boat America". This beginner-intermediate U.S. Coast Guard approved boating class will give you the knowledge needed to obtain a boat license or safety certification. Many boat insurance companies will offer discounts on boating insurance to boaters who successfully complete "Boat America".

This essential and valuable course will guide you through all the basics of boating. If you're new to boating, or need to learn the laws, or understand how to navigate in our waters, or simply need a refresher, this course is for you. Taught by U.S. Coast Guard certified instructors, who live/work/patrol in the Newburyport/Essex/Ipswich/Cape Ann/Rowley - North Shore MA area.
Most importantly, we offer valuable in-person instructor-led expertise and local knowledge.

Introduction to the USCG Auxiliary Ipswich Flotilla

First Northern District

Welcome to the Ipswich Flotilla. We are located in Ipswich Massachusetts and have monthly meetings. The meetings are usually held on the first Monday of the month at 7:00p.m. Guests and potential new members are welcome and encouraged to contact our Flotilla Commander for more information.

We are volunteers and each brings something unique to the Flotilla. We welcome new members and encourage you to reach out to us. Our flotilla is active in Public Education and have upcoming classes on safe boating. We also offer Vessel Exams during the boating season. Our members also actively participate in coastal operations during the boating season. Some of these operations include patrolling waters along the Merrimack River, practicing rescues and tows. Some members assist with Food Service needs at the Coast Guard station. Others help with Boston Light. There are many opportunities to get involved. Training is provided; previous experience is not needed.

Who We Are
We are volunteer members of Flotilla 03-07, which is the Ipswich Massachusetts based unit of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary First District - Northern Region.  The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed auxiliary service of the United States Coast Guard.  The Auxiliary was created by an Act of Congress in 1939, and has grown to nearly 26,000 members that carry out an array of responsibilities touching almost every facet of the U.S. maritime environment.

What we do: The Auxiliary supports the USCG with

  • Recreational Boating Safety and education
  • Vessel Exams
  • Safety and Security Patrols
  • Search and Rescue
  • Mass Casualty or Disasters
  • Pollution Response & Patrols
  • Homeland Security
  • Platforms for Boarding Parties
  • Recruit for all service in the Coast Guard
  • Any mission as directed by the Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard or Secretary of Homeland Security.

About Flotilla 37 Ipswich

Our Flotilla is comprised of men and women of all ages and backgrounds. We are volunteers and each brings something unique to the Flotilla. We are located on the North Shore of Massachusetts. Our primary waterways include Ipswich Bay, Essex Bay, & Plum Island Sound. We directly augment Coast Guard Station Merrimack River as well as Sector Boston.  Our Flotilla is led by an elected Flotilla Commander and Vice Flotilla Commander. Our monthly meetings are typically held on the first Monday of the month at 7:00p.m, at the Ipswich YMCA located at 110 County Road. Currently our meetings are virtual via Zoom. Guests and potential new members are welcome and encouraged to contact our Flotilla Commander for more information.

We need your help to strengthen and ensure the safety of our rich boating community.  Our flotilla is active in Public Education and have upcoming classes on safe boating.
